Dr Katy Draper leaving

We would like to inform you that Dr Katy Draper will be leaving Glenpark at the end of March 2021

Dr Draper has been a valued member of our team since 2015, when she started with us as a registrar (also known as a trainee GP) before becoming a partner in 2016.  She will be sadly missed by her colleagues and patients.

She is leaving to take up a post in another surgery as lead trainer for registrars, something that is very close to her heart

Any personal messages can be left at Glenpark reception and they will be forwarded on to Dr Draper

ACR project for patients with diabetes

This is a programme to remotely monitor urine albumin:creatinine ratio (ACR) annually for patients with diabetes. This enables patients with diabetes to test their kidney function from home. The service is fully-funded and is free to all patients.

Recording Your Ethnic Status

To help the NHS protect those most vulnerable during the pandemic, we have been asked to ensure that all our patients have had the opportunity to tell us their ethnic status. If you would like to add your ethnicity to your medical record, please complete the attached form and return it to the practice.

Extension of the Flu Programme to 50-64 year olds

We are delighted to be able to extend the flu programme to our patients who are aged 50 - 64 years.

For those in the at risk groups (65 and over, aged 2-4, long term conditions, carers, pregnancy and so on), there is still time to book your flu vaccine.

The annual flu jab is the best protection against this winter virus and with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it has never been as important for those who would particularly benefit to ensure that they have the flu vaccine.

These are some of the reasons why:

Has lock down affected your fitness?

COVID has reduced the opportunities for all of us to be able to get out and about and maintain our fitness.

We also know that increased weight is one of the risk factors for developing a more serious COVID illness.

The CCG have created the following website that gives hints and tips on how you can stay fit during these difficult times:

Care and Support Planning Evaluation

As part of our ongoing review of the services we offer, we asked patients to feedback on the their Care and Support Planning appointment for their long term conditions.

We were delighted to see that:

Survey of Virtual Consultations

In response to the COVID emergency, we have had to adopt new ways of working, including more telephone appointments, video consultations and online consultations.

We surveyed patients who had experienced one of these new consultation styles and are delighted to report that there were extremely high satisfaction ratings.

The full survey report can be found below.

Gateshead Inner West Primary Care Network

The five GP surgeries in Inner West Gateshead are now working together to help improve your health and wellbeing.

This NHS initiative is an exciting opportunity for us to join forces with Chainbridge Medical Partnership, Sunniside Surgery, Teams Medical Practice and the Whickham Practice to make a real difference to our 45,000 patients. We will share the expertise that we offer patients and work more closely with voluntary groups and our health and local authority partners, to build stronger and healthier communities; whilst still retaining our own uniqueness.

Dr Draper currently on maternity leave

Dr Katy Draper has now started her maternity leave and we wish her all the very best, with a safe delivery and enjoyable family time.

We are very grateful to Dr Dan Curwen , who many of you may remember trained with us a couple of years ago, for covering her absence over the next few months.
